Feelings run high on a small college campus after a military recruiter is found dead in a guardhouse. The recruiter’s mother is in shock when she learns the news. Her son, a captain in the Army, had made it through two deployments in Iraq only to be murdered at home in America. Distraught over the news and the lack of information surrounding his death, she asks her brother, an urban planner from the Philadelphia area, to learn the truth about what happened to her son... more

Book Review: Defending College Heights:
by Stuart Nachbar

Book Review by John H. Manhold: A decorated Iraq War army veteran and recruiting officer is murdered on the campus of a small engineering school in the Hudson River Valley. His mother is devastated by the loss of her son. Her brother, Jack Donnelly, displeased by biased and degrading news coverage, and the lack of quick action to discover the culprit, goes from Philadelphia to the college to obtain answers. Upon arrival, he is greatly angered by the army's deference to the local authorities, acts rashly, and gains the hostility of the investigating police. His business as a freelance city planner fulfills the needs of the embattled school president, however, and she persuades him to help establish better student housing, as long as he insists upon staying in the area to investigate the murder... more

Review: Murder on Campus! Great Whodunit!
Book Review by Book Reader's Heaven: Stuart Nachbar's Defending College Heights brought back many memories of working within the political and town-gown relations on a university campus (for nearly 40 years). For recruiting commander Kevin Callahan, he didn't even have the opportunity to learn.

Soon after he came home from Iraq, Kevin was made commander of recruitment in the area surrounding Hudson Technical University. Hudson had a long association with the military service for campus recruitment as most federally supported universities do. As plans for the annual job fair were finalized, a protest against the war in Iraq was made in the most horrifying way possible--Kevin was killed, and left in one of the campus guardhouses. "No More Lies" had been left as a message on his t-shirt... more

Book Review: Defending College Heights:
A Novel by Stuart Nachbar

Book Review by Simon Barrett, Blogger News Network: This is Stuart Nachbar's second foray into the literary world, I greatly enjoyed his first book The Sex Ed Chronicles, and when I got wind of the imminent release of Defending College Heights I immediately put it on my must read list.

At first glance there seems little to connect the two books, Sex Ed was a very political themed novel, while Defending College Heights is a murder mystery come thriller. Yet in retrospect there are many parallels, Education plays as the backdrop, and politics is still a major underlying theme. Stuart seems to have found his niche with these themes. From a technical standpoint it is hard to find fault in Defending College Heights, Stuart is becoming a better and better writer... more

DEFENDING COLLEGE HEIGHTS
by Stuart Nachbar

Book Review by Jack Quick: Military recruiting in the sixties was hazardous duty on some college campuses. Now, Army Captain Kevin Callahan has survived Iraq only to be stabbed to death at Hudson Technical University, a small private engineering school located in College Heights, in New York’s Hudson River Valley. A message left on Callahan’s shirt reads, "No more lies." Is this the result of opposition to the war and current recruiting practices as the news media and pro-military and anti-war activists believe, or is there more to this story? Callahan’s uncle, Philadelphia area urban planner Jack Donnelly, is determined to find out. He takes the position of special assistant for campus planning at Hudson Tech, working with president Martina Tiernan. Callahan isn’t sure about Tiernan’s motives, but he is determined to find why his nephew died. The answer shocked him and will surprise you.

Mama's Money Savers, Book Review & Giveaway: "Defending College Heights" by Stuart Nachbar
Mystery books are my favorite genre. I just love when a book is suspenseful and not obvious as it really keeps me reading. My husband makes fun of me as if I really get into a book, I will literally walk around the house and read a page here and there, because of course with kids I don't get to lounge on the couch anymore and read in peace! The book "Defending College Heights" by Stuart Nachbar is one of those books... more
